and other useful information for mailing letters or packages to Brazil, such as postcode lookup, postage rates, etc.

How and how not to address mail and packages to Brazil...

The information available on Brazilian address formats can be a bit confusing. Here is a typical address in Brazil.
   Juan Smith
Rua Visconde de Porto Seguro 1238 [street name + house/building number]
Sao Paulo-SP [city-ProvinceCode] Yes, São Paulo is properly written with an ã, but this will still work.]
04642-000 [postal code (equivalent of what in the U.S. is a 'zip code')]
BRAZIL [country name] (for mailing across international borders)
Some variations:
   Juan Gatto
Rua Visconde de Porto Seguro, 1238 [street name + house/building number]
   Centro [neighborhood ("Bairro")]
Sao Paulo-SP [city-ProvinceCode] Yes, São Paulo is properly written with an ã, but this will still work.]
04642-000 [postal code (equivalent of what in the U.S. is a 'zip code')]
BRAZIL [country name] (for mailing across international borders)
Addresses in the capital city of Brasilia are special. Brasilia is divided into sectors. Each sector is divided into quadrants ("quadras"). Each quadra is divided into blocks. Each sector has a three-letter or four-letter code, which comes before the quadra.
   Sr. Luis Carvalho
   SBN - Quadra 13 - Bloca B - 8o andar [sector SBN - quadrant 13 - block B - 8th floor]
BRASILIA-DF [City-ProvinceCode] The province is specified by a two-letter code.
70002-900 [postal code (equivalent of what in the U.S. is a 'zip code')]
   BRAZIL
Don't be confused by addresses given in a somewhat old-fashioned form that includes the country name as part of the name of the Federal District (DF).
   Sr. Luis Carvalho
   SBN - Quadra 13 - Bloca B - 8o andar
BRASILIA - DF BRAZIL (It's not enough to have "BRAZIL" on this line if you're mailing from outside BRAZIL. The BRAZIL here is just part of the long official title of the "Federal District")
70002-900 [postal code (equivalent of what in the U.S. is a 'zip code')]
BRAZIL [Now foreign countries' postal services can easily see what country to send this to!]
Brazil has post office boxes too.
   SOCIEDADE BRASILEIRA DE FÍSICA
Caixa Postal 66328 [Post Office Box 66328]
   São Paulo-SP
   05315-970
   BRAZIL

Hi,

I'm from Brazil and found your page very useful.
If you want to complete you page on Brazil you can insert the links:

www.cep.com.br where you can look for a particular CEP
               (Brazilian ZIP code)
http://www.correios.com.br Brazilian official postal service site -
click on CEP at the very top of the page

Sorry, both pages are in Portuguese but I've translated the main words below:

Endereço = Address (in the first field pick an option
and in the second write the name of the street / avenue...)
Bairro = Area (like Centro "Downtown"... you don't need to fill this field)
Cidade or Localidade = City
UF = State (pick one)
Número / Apto = Number / apartment (you don't need to fill this field)

I hope it helps!
